Job description

Schedule: 24 hour/week position, three 8-hour days

Position Overview

MaineHealth Orthopedics – Trauma & Fracture Care is seeking a PA or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join a dynamic and growing Orthopedic practice in Portland, Maine. The successful candidate will provide medical care under physician supervision, including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions through office-based evaluation and treatment of outpatients. This position supports the orthopedic trauma service in outpatient, inpatient, operating room, and trauma call settings, in accordance with standards set by Maine Medical Center, the State of Maine, and the NCCPA.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. PA or FNP with Acute Care Certification needed for pediatric patients.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current or eligible Maine Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license; NCCPA certification.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Experience: Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge: Medical model, roles of physicians and PAs/NPs, anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, physical diagnosis.
  • Procedures & Assessment: Knowledge of office procedures, patient assessment techniques, medical histories, physicals, health evaluation, and care compliance.
  • Clinical Skills: Diagnosing and treating medical problems, developing care plans, evaluating patients, providing advice, intervention, or referrals.
  • Decision-Making & Collaboration: Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of practice and collaborate effectively with physicians.
  • Communication & Computer Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and strong computer literacy.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
