Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner APRN Role
The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN to join the busy and growing Department of Cardiac Surgery. Under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN is responsible for performing a variety of duties.These duties include but are not limited to: first assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures, endoscopic vessel harvesting, preoperative history and physical examination, postoperative care in an outpatient clinical setting and patient education.
The successful candidate will also support patient care from the point of admission to discharge in service, Step-Down, and ICU. Duties include managing multiple patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, and invasive procedures. Extensive training and supervision are provided to the Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners for skills such as arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and removal of pacer wires.
Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioner APRN Role Scope:
In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists. Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.
The Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care of patients under the direction of the attending cardiac surgeons in collaboration with the cardiologists and consultants.

Setting: Inpatient, cardiac surgical services
Schedule: Full-time salaried, rotating includes day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday coverage.
