Fairweather’s medical department consists of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, paramedics, EMT II/III and registered nurses.

WORK LOCATION: Prudhoe Bay, Alaska (North Slope)

SCHEDULE: Rotational schedule determined by location on the North Slope

REPORTS TO: Fairweather Medical Manager and Fairweather Medical Director/Collaborating Physician

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Practitioner for acute and occupational medical care. This includes routine minor illness, medical emergencies, and trauma. Directs triage, patient transport, and medical supervision at mass casualty incidents. Interfaces with other response team sections.
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries of the workforce according to collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians.
  • Prescribes and dispenses appropriate pharmaceuticals including controlled substances as approved by the supervising physician, within the scope of the collaborative agreement and in accordance with DEA regulations.
  • Determines the need for emergency air evacuation of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
  • Conducts laboratory and electro-cardiograph diagnostic procedures as required.
  • Refers patients to appropriate consulting physicians within Alaska when required.
  • Attend daily and/or weekly safety and training sessions with the Medical Director and/or Medical Emergency Response Team.
  • Maintains medical records according to company policies and expected standards of medical practice. This includes but is not limited to injury reporting, completion/review of medical forms, and maintenance of statistical logs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Active Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner License with Alaska State License.
  • Professional certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Active DEA License.
  • 3-5 years family, internal medicine, or emergency medicine experience.
  • 2 years remote experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA first aid policies.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Considerable time walking, standing, stooping, sitting, lifting, and assisting with positioning the patient.
  • Exposure to anesthetic gases, blood and body fluids, sharps, and other health care occupational hazards.
  • Exposure to hospital-grade cleaning solutions, flammable solutions, and gases, e.g., alcohol and oxygen, as well as latex and other industrial chemicals.
