Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner - Gastroenterology

Job Summary:
Nurse practitioners (NPs) provide health care services to patients with acute episodic conditions, chronic problems, or those seeking health evaluation, preventive care, education, and counseling. NPs work within KP in primary care or specialty departments, following Regional Standardized Procedures and Process Protocols for Ambulatory and Hospital-Based Practice. They perform complete physical examinations, order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests, and assume ongoing responsibility for each patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery. They diagnose and treat both chronic and episodic disorders, including complications, and establish and document healthcare plans and diagnoses. Maintaining thorough records for review, they demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior, culturally sensitive service to members, providers, and vendors.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Collect subjective data (obtain history).
2. Collect objective data (perform a physical exam).
3. Develop an assessment (diagnosis).
4. Develop and implement a management plan.
5. Facilitate patient referrals to appropriate health facilities and resources within the community.
6. Order pharmacologic interventions.
7. Develop and implement educational plans.
8. Plan for appropriate follow-up care.
9. Support compliance with Kaiser Permanente's Principles of Responsibility by maintaining confidentiality, protecting organizational assets, acting ethically and with integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws, regulations, accreditation, licensure requirements, and policies.
