Job summary

Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery APP team. Work primarily in the inpatient setting with plans to expand outpatient coverage as the team grows.

New APPs undergo a 4–6 month training led by senior APPs, aiming for independence after training. You will collaborate with Neurosurgery physicians and NPs to deliver high-quality, safe patient care.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program.
• Licensed as a Physician Assistant in Michigan (MI).
• NCCPA certification (PA-C) required.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications maintained.
• ARC certification may be required or recommended.

Responsibilities

• Manage ICU and inpatient Neurosurgery patients.
• Provide neurosurgery consults and perioperative care.
• Serve as first assist in OR for neurosurgical cases.
• Cover Neurotrauma Pager and coordinate with neurosurgery team.
• Educate MSU/Spectrum Health Neurosurgery Residents.
• Collaborate with providers to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Job description

The Neurosciences Service Line at Corewell Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our growing Neurosurgery APP team. As West Michigan's leading neuroscience referral center, and one of the largest providers of adult neuroscience services in the state, the Neurosurgery department functions within our multidisciplinary team to provide quality care, research, and education within the clinical neurosciences.

This position, in partnership with our Neurosurgery NP's and Neurosurgery Residents, will work mainly in the inpatient setting with plans to expand to the outpatient setting as the team grows. New APP's can expect a 4-6 month training process led by our experienced senior APP's. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently after appropriate training & demonstrate excellent clinical acumen. This position plays an integral role in the Neurosurgery team and works collaboratively & cohesively with our Nurse Practitioner and Neurosurgery physicians.

Responsibilities/Expectations

• 12 Hour shift length.
• 14 shifts over a 28-day period, with the expectation that up to 3 will be night shifts.
• Weekend coverage - current expectation is 1 in 4 weekends (subject to change as team expands)
• Holiday coverage - current expectation is 2-3 system holiday per year (subject to change as team expands)
• Management of primary Neurosurgery ICU & floor patients.
• Performing bed-side procedure.
• Completing neurosurgery consults.
• OR case coverage providing first assist.
• Neurotrauma Pager coverage.
• Education for our MSU/Spectrum Health Neurosurgery Residents.
• Collaboration with other providers & members of our health care team to deliver quality & safe patient care.

• Required Master's Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program.
• LIC-Physician Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan.
• CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association.
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross.
