Job summary

Northwell Health seeks a Physician Assistant with Neurosurgery and Critical Care exposure to join our Neuro ICU and Neurosurgery teams. The role involves taking histories, performing exams, and coordinating the care plan with attending staff to optimize outcomes.

The position requires NY licensure as a PA, NCCPA certification, and BLS. The successful candidate will participate in rounds, discharge planning, and education initiatives within a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program required.
• Licensed Physician Assistant (NY) by NYSED required.
• Current NCCPA certification required.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Take initial patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Document and communicate plan of care; ensure thorough screening and prep of patients.
• Perform daily patient rounds.
• Write orders for meds, labs, and tests; interpret results.
• Consult with attending physicians, residents, and staff to ensure quality care.
• Note discharge summaries, prescriptions, and referrals; provide post-discharge instructions.
• Perform related duties as needed.

Neurosurgery and/or critical care experience OR critical care fellowship preferred.

Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation. Participates in performance improvement, research and educational activities.

Job Responsibility

• 1. Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.
• 2. Initiates, documents and communicates the plan of care and follows-up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
• 3. Performs daily patient rounds.
• 4. Writes orders for medications, laboratory work and diagnostic tests. Interprets laboratory and test results.
• 5. Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
• 6. Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions and any referrals on patient charts. Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.
• 7. Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree, required.
• Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA) program, required.
• Licensed Physician Assistant (LPA) by the New York State Department of Education, required.
• Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.
• Current BLS certification, required

Includes Neuro ICU and Neurosurgery. Critical Care Fellowship OR Neurosurgery and/or Critical Care experience preferred.
