Dominican University of California is seeking a PA Medical Academic Coach (MAC) on a part-time basis to support remediation for MSPAS students at the San Rafael campus. The MAC will conduct tutoring, proctoring, and reassessment activities and help align program policies with ARC-PA standards.

The role partners with the MSPAS Program Director and Curriculum/Assessment teams to promote student success, well-being, and lifelong learning while maintaining confidentiality across university

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from ARC-PA accredited PA program or MD/DO from accredited medical school
  • Current NCCPA PA certification or current Medical board certification (MD/DO). Active certification preferred, emeritus status acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program leadership to organize and facilitate student success evaluations and support plans
  • Assist in developing and implementing supplemental instructional programs to increase student retention and prepare for exams and PANCE
  • Maintain transparent tutoring/remediation/re-assessment schedules and track program activities
  • Review MSPAS assessments to identify areas for program improvement and student success
  • Promote best practices in medical education, mentoring, wellness, technology integration, professionalism, and continuous quality improvement
  • Collaborate with program leadership to monitor progress and ensure adherence to MSPAS standards
  • Uphold academic performance standards and integrity as outlined in the MSPAS Program Handbook

Job Location: Main Campus - SAN RAFAEL, CA 94901Position Type: Staff - Part TimeSalary Range: $50.00 - $50.00 HourlyUnder the direction of the MSPAS Program Director, and in partnership with the Academic Progress Chair and Director of Curriculum and Assessment, the PA Medical Academic Coach (MAC) will support the remediation process for at risk students. This includes but is not limited to conducting remediation activities, proctoring and/or conducting re‑assessment, providing one‑on‑one tutoring or facilitating small group tutoring of students in their didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum. The MAC is dedicated to conducting activities in a manner that promotes student success and lifelong learning. This individual will work closely with the Academic Progress Chair and Director of Curriculum and Assessment, as well as individual MSPAS instructional faculty, to assure that learning needs are met for the PA students. In addition, this individual will provide insight into the review and development of program policies and procedures related to student remediation, as well as contribute to the alignment of the curriculum and educational goals with ARC‑PA standards. They will maintain confidentiality of the individual student, faculty/staff, program and university in all interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Academic Progress Chair – in consultation with Program Director and Director of Curriculum and Assessment - to organize and facilitate individual student success evaluation with development of student support plan
  • Assists and collaborate in the development and implementation of supplemental instructional programs designed to increase student retention. This may include regular didactic and/or clinical student group tutoring sessions, post‑examination topical review sessions, clinical EOR content area review sessions, and/or pre‑PANCE review sessions.
  • Maintains clear and transparent schedule of individual student tutoring, remediation, and re‑assessment as requested by the Director of Curriculum and Assessment. Maintains clear and transparent schedule of any supplemental instructional programs (i.e., group activities for students).
  • Review of MSPAS student assessments - including didactic, clinical, and summative assessments – with an eye for identifying areas of program improvement for overall student success and retention.
  • Incorporates best practices in graduate medical education including the use of mentoring and coaching, attention on wellness and resilience, incorporation of advancing technology, development of medical professionalism, and focus on evidence‑based medicine and quality improvement.
  • Regular and consistent collaboration with the Program Director and Academic Progress Chair to monitor individual student and/or program progress in relation to student retention and overall program success.
  • Uphold academic performance standards and integrity as outlined in the MSPAS Program Handbook.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an ARC‑PA accredited Physician Assistant / Associate Program – or - Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited allopathic medical school – or – Doctor Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited osteopathic medical school
  • Current NCCPA certification (PA) or current Medical board certification (MD, DO). Active certification preferred, emeritus status acceptable.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in general primary care (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and/or Pediatrics), urgent or Emergency Medicine care. Additional experience in pre‑and post‑procedure examination preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate medical education experience, or direct clinical education experience (i.e., preceptor or resident educator), preferred.
  • Competence in use of Google Suite: Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Competence in use of Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Competence in use of Zoom virtual platform including use of digital camera.
