Description
Evaluates, examines, diagnoses, and treats patients in collaboration with their supervising or substitute supervising physician, according to established guidelines and protocols. Maintains and promotes the well-being of the patient through preventative healthcare and guidance. May provide care in both hospital and outpatient settings, including weekends and shift work. Includes surgical first assist responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.
- Ensuring patient assessment and care are delivered in accordance with licensing boards, hospital policies, procedures, and professional standards, including:
- Collecting assessment data systematically, focusing on physical, psychosocial, age, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Performing physical exams and history taking.
- Documenting assessment data accurately within established time frames.
- Involving patients, families, and other healthcare providers as appropriate.
- Prescribing medications based on patient condition and guidelines.
Demonstrating leadership and professional behaviors, including problem-solving, accountability, resourcefulness, advocacy, precepting, and cost management.Supporting compliance with regulatory agencies and participating in survey preparations, safety drills, and reporting systems.Ensuring patient safety by adhering to infection control, emergency response, and safety protocols.Participating in quality improvement and performance activities to enhance patient care and service.Managing physical and psychological patient problems, including treatment planning and reassessment.Communicating effectively with the healthcare team to ensure continuous patient care.Performing procedures, assisting in surgeries, and providing pre- and post-operative care, including patient education and discharge planning.Collaborating with physicians to evaluate and treat patients, including medication management and patient education.Documenting all clinical activities thoroughly and accurately in the medical record.Exhibiting leadership and accountability, acting as a resource, and mentoring new staff.Engaging in performance improvement activities and ensuring patient safety according to policies.Qualifications include:
- Related training/experience, preferably within the past five years, including at least one year of medical/surgical experience.
