Job Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) I Specialty is a licensed health professional practicing medicine under physician supervision as a surgical assistant. The PA I has less than three years of experience and is involved in care coordination, education, and clinical patient management. Responsibilities include obtaining patient histories, conducting physical exams, documenting findings, ordering and interpreting tests, counseling on preventative care, and ordering medications. The role may also involve performing approved procedures based on patient status, all governed by the Physician Assistant Practice Agreement and regulations.

Essential Duties
  1. Assist during surgical procedures, including tissue retraction and suturing, accounting for at least 50% of duties.
  2. Obtain detailed medical histories and perform physical examinations.
  3. Develop and implement patient management plans, coordinate referrals, and ensure continuity of care.
  4. Order and interpret diagnostic tests and therapies, including medications and consultations.
  5. Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures.
  6. Perform procedures as authorized by privileges.
  7. Coordinate patient care with the healthcare team.
  8. Manage complex illnesses and injuries under physician supervision.
  9. Counsel patients and families on treatment adherence, health maintenance, and emotional support.
  10. Refer patients to appropriate health and social services.
  11. Ensure accurate billing for services rendered.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Completion of a Surgical Fellowship.
  • Commitment to quality patient care and customer service.
  • Effective teamwork skills with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred:

  • 0-3 years of experience in ambulatory care.
  • Experience with surgical consults and H&Ps.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Physician Assistant license (CA DCA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days of hire if applicable.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA.
  • National Certification from NCCPA.
  • DEA Controlled Substance Certificate within 3 months of hire.
Salary

Annual base salary ranges from $133,120 to $219,648, based on experience and other factors.
