Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement, remaining open until September 30th, 2025.
- The initial cut-off date for eligible applications is June 9th, 2025, with subsequent cut-offs every two weeks.
- Applications received after these dates will be accepted on an ongoing basis; qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

- Learn more about the Geriatrics and Extended Care service at the VA Central California Health Care System, which is hiring a Physician Assistant for their Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program.
- The HBPC program provides team-based in-home support for Veterans with ongoing diseases and illnesses affecting their health and daily activities.
- The Physician Assistant practices in the outpatient setting within the Central California Health Care System and in patients' residences.
- The Physician Assistant is prepared to perform a broad spectrum of patient care services at an expert level.
- Responsibilities include providing primary health care, working with RNs and medical staff for patients with complex needs, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, participating in research, and assisting with rehabilitation techniques.
- Primary care duties include assessment, diagnosis, treatment, outcome measurement, histories, physicals, diagnostic and therapeutic tests, referrals, and medication prescribing, in accordance with VA policies, formulary, state regulations, and scope of practice.
- The Physician Assistant will visit new patients at their homes, provide medical care for acute and chronic issues, conduct preventive care, and follow up with additional visits as needed.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and perform administrative and coordination duties within the HBPC team.
- Major duties include admitting/discharging patients, health promotion, disease prevention, patient education, documentation, ordering tests, and other related tasks.
