Physician Assistant (ACLS)

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Coordinate appropriate, timely patient care between health care providers and ancillary clinicians under a physician license, focusing on identified expected unit/optimal outcomes for defined patient populations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to manage/coordinate patient care and promptly respond to patient questions/issues, providing assistance for emergencies as needed.
  • Perform independent or delegated functions under physician license, such as diagnosis, use of prescriptive authority, and treatment according to practice guidelines, protocols, and/or standing orders.
  • Review medications and test reports, respond to critical test results, and advise on corrective actions.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments (initial, ongoing, discharge), identify normal/abnormal health characteristics, develop plan of care, initiate appropriate interventions, and evaluate outcomes on defined patient populations.
  • Perform quality and safe diagnostic, surgical, and/or therapeutic procedures necessary for defined patient populations.
  • Assist the inter‑professional health care team in the development and implementation of protocols to ensure patient safety, and lead improvements in patient safety processes.
  • Adapt patient/family communication, advocate on their behalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns.
Leadership, Teaching & Advocacy
  • Demonstrate leadership as a clinical resource, inter‑professional consultant, and patient advocate; participate in rounding independently or with physicians/surgeons and attend interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Collaborate to foster healthy relationships, act as a role model, and coach staff in effective verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication.
  • Serve as first call for hospital staff and as preceptor for Physician Assistant students and medical residents, where appropriate.
  • Communicate organizational information and aspects of administrative and clinical practice respectfully and positively; advocate for workload balance, promote positive behaviors, and use peer‑to‑peer accountability to improve department scores for employee engagement.
Performance & Financial Management
  • Perform accurate and timely documentation in medical records, including diagnosis and CPT coding.
  • Implement department strategies to achieve financial targets and mentor others through timely documentation, decreasing length of stay, optimizing efficiency, and other area‑specific metrics.
  • Project awareness and understanding of resource allocation based on patient needs and staff expertise.
Innovation & Professional Development
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve patient care or department operations, including participation in departmental/hospital projects or committees.
  • Provide education through research, presentations, and publications; expand knowledge of staff and coach them to grow; maintain and update the My Development Plan.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Work Experience: One year of clinical experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications (Required): PA State Licensure by the Texas Board of Physician Assistants; PA‑C (NCCPA) certification; BLS (AHA); ACLS (AHA); DEA Narcotics License (6 months).
