Catholic Health Services is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the General Surgery team in a full-time, on-site capacity in New York. The PA will work closely with surgeons to provide comprehensive perioperative care, from pre-operative assessments through post-operative management, while ensuring patient safety and high-quality outcomes.

The role requires an accredited PA program completion, PA-C or ACNP certification, and active BLS/ACLS/AED credentials.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor’s degree required.
• PA-C or ACNP certification preferred.
• BLS/ACLS/AED training required (no online programs accepted).
• DEA registration required for patient discharge duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons in general surgery procedures across pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases.
• Prepare patients, obtain consent, and perform pre-operative assessments.
• Maintain sterile environments and handle instruments and equipment.
• Conduct patient evaluations, review medical histories, and interpret diagnostics.
• Collaborate with surgical team to implement patient care plans and coordinate follow-ups.
• Monitor post-operative patients, manage pain and potential complications.
• Communicate with patients and families about procedures and recovery.
• Maintain accurate surgical notes and treatment plans, ensuring regulatory compliance.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our General Surgery team. As a key member of our surgical healthcare professionals, you will work closely with surgeons to provide comprehensive patient care throughout the surgical process. Responsibilities:

Surgical Assistance:

• Assist surgeons in various general surgery procedures, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
• Prepare patients for surgery, ensuring proper consent and pre-operative assessments.
• Handle surgical instruments and equipment, maintaining a sterile environment.

Patient Evaluation and Management:

• Conduct patient assessments, including medical history reviews, physical examinations, and diagnostic test interpretation.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, addressing patient needs and concerns.

Post-Operative Care:

• Monitor patients in the post-operative period, assessing vital signs and managing pain and complications.
• Provide patient education on post-operative care, medication management, and potential complications.
• Assist in coordinating follow-up care and appointments.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing questions and providing information about surgical procedures and recovery.

Documentation:

• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including surgical notes, progress reports, and treatment plans.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational documentation standards.

Emergency Response:

• Respond promptly to emergency situations in the surgical setting, demonstrating proficiency in life-saving interventions.
• Participate in drills and training to enhance emergency preparedness.

Requirements:

• PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor’s degree required

Certification:

• Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP)
• BLS/ACLS/AED training required and accepted from only 1 organization
  • American Heart Association BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
  • No online programs from any organization will be accepted.
  • DEA registration required for those with discharge responsibilities.

Salary Range

USD $71.98 - USD $93.00 /Hr.
