Job description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) to join our esteemed surgical team at a leading hospital in New York. In this role you will work closely with surgeons and the healthcare team to provide comprehensive pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative care for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. Key Responsibilities
  • Pre‑operative Care: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, review medical histories, order necessary diagnostic tests, and provide education and counseling to patients prior to surgery.
  • Intra‑operative Care: Assist during surgical procedures by providing direct support to the surgical team, including suturing, specimen collection, and surgical site management.
  • Post‑operative Care: Monitor and assess patients post surgery, managing pain, complications, and recovery. Provide discharge instructions and ensure patients have appropriate follow‑up care.
  • Patient Management: Collaborate with attending physicians, residents, and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans for surgical patients.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Patient Education: Provide counseling on post‑operative care, including medication management, activity restrictions, wound care, and signs of complications.
  • On‑call Responsibilities: Participate in on‑call rotations as needed for emergency surgical care.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and efficient workflow in the surgical department.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program.
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant licensure.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Previous surgical experience or a strong interest in surgery preferred.
