Job summary

Signature Healthcare, MA seeks a Physician Assistant to join its inpatient surgical service. The PA will work in collaboration with the attending surgeon, managing diverse inpatient care and assisting in the operating room as needed.

Qualified candidates must be a graduate of an accredited PA program, hold a Massachusetts license with prescriptive authority, and have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred). This is a full-time role based in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Complete daily rounds on inpatients and document medical plan.
• Communicate with attending physicians daily regarding patients.
• Provide routine medical management including orders for tests, meds, and follow-up on results.
• Work collaboratively with house staff and take direction from senior staff.
• Perform minor procedures under supervision (e.g., chest tubes, catheters, wound care).
• Initiate emergency care until supervising physician arrives.
• Serve as first or second assistant in the operating room as needed.
• Conduct history and physicals for ED consults and admissions to surgical service.

Job description

The Physician Assistant is a midlevel to senior level Practitioner who by virtue of advanced training and experience is qualified to function in a collaborative role with the attending surgeon in providing care to a diverse patient population in an inpatient surgical service. Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant program; Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred. Must have current valid Massachusetts license and be prescriptive eligible.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Complete individual daily rounds on all inpatients and documentation of medical plan by writing daily notes.
• 2. Communicates on a daily basis with attending physicians regarding all patients.
• 3. Provides routine medical management of inpatient care including ordering of diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications (within the scope of the PA license), nutrition and follow up on test results.
• 4. Works collaboratively with house staff and takes direction from senior house staff or senior resident on specific patient care duties.
• 5. Conducts minor procedures (under the direction and supervision of the Attending Physician), including: chest tubes, indwelling venous and arterial catheters, nasogastric tubes, bladder catheters, minor wound debridement and removal of drains, repair of lacerations and I&D of abscesses.
• 6. Initiates appropriate emergency care until the arrival of the supervising physician
• 7. Functions as first or second assistant in the operating room as necessary, serving as backup to interns and residents.
• 8. Performs appropriate history and physical examinations and plan of care on Emergency Department consults and admissions to the surgical service
