Qualifications

Job Overview:

The Physician Assistant is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient/outpatient care through collaboration with the Physician. The PA provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory Committee.

Specific duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Support the physician by providing coverage with evaluation, treatment, and documentation of service for patients requiring orthopedic care in both the operating and office environment
  • Assists physician during office hours including preoperative and postoperative instructions.
  • Provides dictation support and documentation of patient encounters and letters of Medical Necessity.
  • Prepares discharge letters and make post-op calls to referring physicians.
  • Reviews charts preoperatively and documents any pertinent information.
  • Provides coverage with residents, fellows and other advanced practitioners covering provider on-call schedules.
  • Liaisons between physician and outside consulting physicians regarding patient care.
  • Performs assessment and reassessment of the patient according to applicable department standards and identified tools.
  • Assists physician during hospital rounds with post-op patients and with research as needed.
  • Participates in and contributes to orthopedic educational activities for appropriate internal and external parties.

  • Possesses good working knowledge of scheduling and procedure prioritization to minimize delays and ensure completion of daily work schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Physician.

Required Education and Experience needed

  • Physician Assistant Certification,
  • Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners, Physician Assistant Advisory
  • Although not required, fluency in Spanish, and other languages is a plus.
