Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for inpatient care at Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Hospital, plus outpatient clinic work. The ideal candidate will manage diabetes-related cases and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

Experience in diabetes management or endocrinology is preferred. Regular hours are M-F 8a-5p with on-call and weekend rotations. Veterans encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher from ARC-PA accredited PA program.
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing with Texas Board authorization and APRN prescriptive authority.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting labs, radiology, and other tests.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills as appropriate to specialty and training.
  • Provides management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality initiatives and clinical research protocols to improve practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and applies evidence-based practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Come join our team in the Division of Endocrinology at UT Southwestern! This is an opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide inpatient (90%) care at Clements University Hospital and Zale Lispshy Hospital and outpatient (10%) in the clinic. The ideal candidate will have a patient centered approach to care, be able to multitask, and work well in multidisciplinary teams. This position manages patients with type I and type II diabetes, gestational diabetes, transplant patients, cystic fibrosis, as well as steroid or other drug induced hyperglycemia. Experience in diabetes management, endocrinology preferred but not required. M - F, 8a.m. - 5p.m.. with on-call and weekend rotations. Veterans encouraged to apply.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Education

Graduate of a master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR

Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Licensure and Certification

Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR

Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
