Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Endocrine Surgery team at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a master's degree or higher ARC-PA accredited PA program or RN/NP pathway with TX prescriptive authority.
  • Certification by NCCPA and state licensure in Texas are required or as applicable.
  • Experience as a First Assist in the OR is strongly preferred.

JOB SUMMARY

The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Endocrine Surgery team.

The APP serves as a key member of a multidisciplinary team caring for patients with endocrine disorders and endocrine-related oncologic conditions. This primarily outpatient role offers a unique combination of clinic-based patient management, perioperative care, and First Assist responsibilities in the operating room.

The APP will independently evaluate and manage patients, collaborate with endocrine surgeons and other clinical specialists, coordinate care plans, review and interpret laboratory and imaging results, provide patient education, and support patients throughout their treatment journey. Responsibilities include serving as a First Assist in the operating room, managing follow-up care, reviewing diagnostics, and partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

This position offers the opportunity to work across the continuum of care, including the outpatient clinic, operating room, and limited inpatient rounding, while practicing with a high degree of autonomy alongside nationally recognized endocrine surgeons. Veteran's encouraged to apply.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, primarily 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with responsibilities in the outpatient clinic, operating room, and limited inpatient rounding.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Experience

Clinical experience in endocrine surgery, surgical oncology, endocrinology, ENT, head and neck surgery, or a related surgical specialty is highly preferred. Experience serving as a First Assist in the operating room is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, motivated, comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, and interested in caring for patients across the outpatient clinic, operating room, and inpatient settings.

Education

Graduate of a master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR

Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Licensure and Certification

Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR

Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

For Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) training or experience is preferred. Candidates with prior First Assist experience in the operating room, endocrine surgery experience, or a surgical background applicable to endocrine surgery are strongly preferred.

Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

JOB DUTIES
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
