Job summary

Barrow Brain & Spine in Arizona seeks a Physician Assistant to provide surgical first assist and clinic care. You will assess health status, participate in rounds, and manage histories, physicals, therapies, injections, and suturing as part of comprehensive care.

The ideal candidate holds an accredited PA degree, an active Arizona license, and DEA/CPR certification, with at least one year in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited PA program.
  • Active, unrestricted Arizona PA license at hire.
  • DEA and CPR certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year of PA experience in a clinic or hospital.
  • Pain management experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • First Assist in surgery, as well as see patients in clinic.
  • Assesses patient health status, wellness, and care plan compliance.
  • Provides acute and chronic care, including taking histories, exams, therapies, injections, medications, and suturing wounds.
  • Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
  • Documents patient information and care in the patient record.
  • Educates patients and families; ensures continuity of care.
  • Participates in rounds and responds to after-hours/weekend calls.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged sitting, standing, somebending, stooping, carrying, stretching and/or walking
  • Normal range of hearing and visionto record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and records
  • Ability to help transfer patient
  • Occasional stress from dealingwith multiple tasks and anxious patients

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Medical office and exam roomsettings
  • Procedure room settings
  • Frequent contact with a variety ofpeople/patients

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • First Assist in surgery, as well as see patients in clinic

  • Provides acute and chronic patient care, including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, giving injections and medications, and suturing wounds
  • Triages patient calls and evaluated patient problems

  • Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care.
  • Participates in rounds at the hospital and responds to patient calls received after hours and on weekends
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Other duties and assignments as necessary

Requirements

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medication, delivering physical care following treatment plan
  • Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic and emotional patient data
  • Maintains positive attitude and demonstrates the utmost in professionalism at all times
  • Excellent oral, written & telephone communication, along with tact, diplomacy, and a strong customer service orientation
  • Prioritizes work activities and accepts multiple job duties
  • Maintains effective working relationships with physicians, administration and other staff members
  • Requires flexibility to workoccasional evenings, weekends or holidays.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and completion of an accreditedphysicianassistant (PA)program.
  • A valid unrestricted license to practice as aPhysicianAssistantin the State of Arizona, with no pending disciplinaryactions or restrictions is required.
  • DEA and CPR certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience asaphysicianassistantin a clinic or hospital.
  • Experience is pain management setting stronglypreferred.
