Job summary

Unity Health Care in Washington, DC seeks a Physician Assistant to join the Department of Corrections program. Under the Medical Director, you will provide comprehensive patient care, exercise independent clinical judgment, and collaborate with physicians and the care team to support care within the DOC.

Responsibilities include preventive and diagnostic care, patient histories, examinations, ordering tests, prescribing medications, and coordinating referrals.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program and NCCPA certification.
• Current Washington, DC Physician Assistant license is required.
• Strong clinical judgment and collaboration with physicians and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic healthcare under physician supervision.
• Obtain medical histories and conduct physical examinations.
• Order and interpret laboratory and radiology testing as appropriate.
• Diagnose conditions and prescribe appropriate treatment, including medications.
• Order controlled substances with valid DEA registration when licensed.
• Collaborate with social workers, physicians, and the care team for referrals and follow-up.
• Maintain supervising physician documentation and participate in quality improvement.
