Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an Advanced Practitioner (Physician Assistant) Fellow to perform diagnostics and therapeutic tasks under physician supervision, advancing knowledge in patient care decision-making and management. The Fellow will collaborate with attendings, APs, and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care and advocacy for patients, coordinating with the care team across departments.

Job Summary

To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of a physician, diagnostics and therapeutic tasks to further educate the Advanced Practitioner Fellow in knowledge, patient care decision-making, and patient care management. The AP Fellow works collaboratively with the attendings and APs to provide care to new or established patients, assure continuity of care and advocacy for patients, and in serving as a liaison between physicians and patients. Additionally, the AP Fellow works collaboratively with medical staff members, nursing personnel, and other departmental staff to coordinate patient care requirements.

Job Duties

• To assist the physician in the evaluation and management of patients, to include: 60;
  
  
  • Performs and records comprehensive patient history and physical examination. 60;
  
  
  • Reviews all appropriate laboratory studies and x-rays.
  
  
  • Clearly discriminates between normal and abnormal findings when evaluating a patient’s historical, physical examination, and diagnostic data. 60;
  
  
  • In concert with collaborating or supervising physician, writes orders for appropriate laboratory, diagnostic studies, and consultations.
  
  
  • Executes and relays medical regimens as directed by the collaborating or supervising physician.
  
  
  • Assists with patient hospital admissions and consults, including performing and documenting the patient history and physical examination, and entering routine orders.
  
  
  • Identifies patient problems and develops further evaluation and treatment plans in concert with the appropriate collaborating or supervising physician.
  
  
  • Informs the collaborating or supervising physician of all changes in the patient’s condition.
  
  


• Assists the collaborating or supervising physician in all inpatient settings. 60;


• Assists the collaborating or supervising physician with correspondence relevant to the patient’s care.


• Communicates to patients and family members, in language they can understand, summaries of all patient medical findings and advice as directed by the collaborating or supervising physician.


• Participates in training on the performance of therapeutic procedures as directed by the collaborating or supervising physician.


• Attends all appropriate in-house conferences and required lectures as assigned and attends appropriate continuing medical education.


• Completes all required reading assignments.


• Performs all other duties as assigned by the collaborating or supervising physician.


• Additional essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: appropriate electronic medical record usage, computer competency, traveling to system clinical sites, and participation in the call schedule.
