Job Description

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 position at the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in Mackenzie Point, AK.

What You Will Be Doing

As a provider, you will care for the emergent, urgent, and chronic care needs of inmates. There is nursing support staff 24 hours per day. You will act as the liaison between the correctional facility, local physicians, and hospitals. You will prescribe Schedule II-V drugs as appropriate in accordance with State licensing requirements and the prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.

We seek candidates with competencies in:

  • Medicine and Dentistry: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of injuries, diseases, and deformities, including preventive health-care measures.
  • Public Health: Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools related to protecting and improving community health, promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Technology Application: Effective use of machines, tools, instruments, and computer applications to analyze and communicate information.
  • Teamwork: Encouraging cooperation, trust, and group identity; fostering commitment; working collaboratively to achieve goals.
Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Alaska. Candidates not currently licensed but meeting other requirements may apply; a conditional offer may be made pending licensure proof. Other requirements include passing background checks, providing proof of no active pulmonary tuberculosis, shift and on-call availability, and obtaining necessary DEA registration and program registrations.
