Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Physician Assistant (PA) to provide high-quality, efficient, team-based, patient-focused care in Urgent Care and Emergency Care settings in Roseville and Folsom, California.


Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Senior Physician Assistant will evaluate and treat patients, develop and implement treatment plans, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and provide continuity of care.


Depending on departmental needs, the PA may also work in hospital, emergency department, outpatient, or perioperative settings. The position may involve surgical first assisting, inpatient rounding, on-call responsibilities, and department-specific procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories and physical examinations.

  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, and ECGs.

  • Develop and implement patient-specific treatment and management plans.

  • Perform therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.

  • Perform department-specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as required.

  • Document patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other clinical information accurately.

  • Educate and counsel patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, health maintenance, and follow-up care.

  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges when applicable.

  • Perform inpatient rounding and admission evaluations as required.

  • Review patient charts, allergies, medical histories, laboratory results, diagnostic studies, and physical findings.

  • Communicate abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to the supervising or attending physician.

  • Provide pre-operative, procedural, and post-operative education to patients and families.

  • Assist physicians with surgical and other medical procedures in accordance with applicable standards of care.

  • Serve as First Assist during surgical procedures when required.

  • Perform procedures such as IV placement and suturing when appropriate.

  • Enter standard post-operative orders and assist with post-operative patient management.

  • Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and diagnostic studies during patient recovery.

  • Facilitate timely patient discharge and transfer.

  • Participate in performance improvement and clinical quality initiatives.

  • Mentor and support less experienced Physician Assistants.

  • Collaborate with physicians, managers, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities when required.

  • Work varying schedules, which may include evenings and weekends, based on departmental needs.


Required QualificationsEducation


  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.


Professional Experience


  • Minimum 3 years of Physician Assistant experience within the last 5 years.

  • Experience must demonstrate the ability to independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients.


Licensure & Certifications


  • Active California Physician Assistant License required at the time of hire.

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required at hire.

  • Physician Assistant National Certification (NCCPA) required at hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.


Additional Requirements


  • Must demonstrate clinical competency in procedures relevant to the assigned department.

  • A Fluoroscopy Permit is required for Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology, or must be obtained within 18 months of hire.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based healthcare environment.

  • Must be available to work varying schedules, including evenings and weekends.

  • Position may require travel of up to 50% of the time.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced certification in the applicable specialty.

  • Experience in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or Perioperative Care.

  • Experience performing surgical first-assist duties.

  • Strong clinical judgment and patient assessment skills.

  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting other Physician Assistants.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced, California-licensed Physician Assistant with at least three years of recent clinical experience and strong patient assessment and treatment capabilities.


Candidates with a background in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or Perioperative Care will be particularly well suited for this opportunity. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams, and providing high-quality patient-centered care.
