Job summary

SAC Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (Pediatric) to join our Indio clinic, delivering patient-centered care under physician supervision. The PA will manage consultations, diagnoses, and treatment plans for diverse pediatric patients, including the underinsured and homeless populations.

Schedule is five days per week, 8 hours daily, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, in Indio, CA. The role emphasizes teamwork within a teaching organization and requires CA PA and DEA licenses.

Qualifications

• Master of Physician Assistant Studies required including clinical rotations in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Women's Health.
• California PA license and DEA license required.
• 1+ years outpatient Primary Care experience; 3+ years preferred.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical care to pediatric patients at SAC Health inpatient/outpatient clinics.
• Order injections and immunizations; perform suturing and wound management.
• Assess patients, obtain histories, perform exams, and interpret tests for accurate diagnosis.
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans; educate patients and families on health and wellness.
• Document care in EHR; maintain thorough patient records and continuity of care.
• Collaborate with physicians, residents, and interns in a teaching environment.

What We Are Looking For

Under the supervision of the physician, the Physician Assistant (PA) assists with all aspects of Pediatric patient care to include consultations, diagnosis, and developing treatment plans. The PA will be responsible for direct patient care of our uninsured, underinsured and homeless population. Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short‑term and long‑range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.

Schedule: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00pm | Location: Indio Clinic, Indio, CA

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES

• Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients of all ages. Monitor developmental health and administer preventive care, including vaccinations.


• Performs therapeutic procedures by ordering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.


• Examining patients, obtaining medical histories, and performing tests and procedures to diagnose and treat illnesses, medical conditions, and injuries; interpreting test results.


• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans and offer guidance on health, safety, nutrition, and fitness needs. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.


• Educate patients and families on managing illnesses and injuries, promoting healthy lifestyle choices.


• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records using an Electronic Health Record (EHR). Maintain detailed records of assessment, treatment plans, and progress.


• Performs therapeutic procedures by ordering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.


• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.


• Ability to collaborate, teach, support and function in a teaching organization that builds, coaches and embraces interns and residency programs. Collaborate with rotating doctors, residents and interns, while continuously building a trusting, safe, patient centered workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Masters of Physician Assistant Sciences, which includes both didactic and clinical rotations (including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Women's Health)


• Licensure/Certification: Valid Physician Assistant License in California. Valid DEA License in California.


• Experience: 1+ years prior experience in outpatient Primary Care: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Women's Health is required. 3+ years prior experience in outpatient Primary Care: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Women's Health. Experience working in FQHC a plus


• Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Calculator and personal computer with Excel and EHR knowledge. Ability use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.


• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction.


• Essential Mental Abilities: Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.


• Work Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
