Job description

Physician / Anesthesiology / Iowa / Locum tenens / Anesthesiologist Needed

This is a full-time locum tenens opportunity for an anesthesiologist in Iowa, starting as soon as credentialed. The practice setting is a hospital-based surgical services department within a Level 2 trauma center, utilizing Cerner PowerChart EMR. The average number of surgical cases per day is 13.

Schedule Details
  • Monday - Friday: 1 MDA on vacation (except 2 weeks/year), 1 post-call, 1 on-call, 1 day-shift only, 2nd call daily.
  • Weekends (Saturday/Sunday): 1st call Saturday, 2nd call Sunday, and vice versa, with other MDAs off.
Call and Coverage
  • Call Details: 1st call providers can go home once cases finish; 2nd call providers usually stay late and serve as backup.
  • Coverage Requirements: Full-time, minimum 2 weeks per month, immediate start after credentialing (~60 days).
Responsibilities
  • Supervision of CRNAs (~100%), with experienced CRNAs working collaboratively.
  • No need to prepare anesthesia carts.
  • Perform a variety of surgical anesthesia procedures, including general, nerve blocks, regional, cardiac, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, neurosurgical, and pain management procedures.
  • Manage ventilation and evaluate acute volume/BP issues.
Patient Demographics and Operating Rooms
  • Mostly adult/geriatric patients; no pediatric or adolescent procedures.
  • 12 operating rooms.
  • Annual ER volume: approximately 25,000.
Experience and Credentialing
  • Board-eligible or certified anesthesiologist.
  • Strong cardiac experience required (list years of experience).
  • Willing to perform heart cases.
  • COVID vaccination required.
