Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to have met basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable)
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
• Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• For residents: enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs, fully licensed, and appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Preferred: Residency in Anesthesiology with Board Certification or Eligibility

Duties

• Provide anesthetic care in accordance with VA standards
• Assess and prepare patients for anesthesia, including pre-operative exams
• Administer anesthesia and manage patient homeostasis during perioperative and critical care
• Diagnose and treat pain syndromes
• Manage cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation and respiratory therapy
• Supervise and teach medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia and critical care
• Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in hospital, medical school, and outpatient facility activities
• Provide teaching for students and residents as needed
• On-call coverage required
• Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
