Job summary

IHA is seeking a Physician Advisor to lead clinical documentation improvement, ensure medical necessity compliance, and optimize utilization management within the hospital setting.

The role partners with CDI, quality, case management, and revenue cycle teams to improve DRG accuracy, reduce denials, and enhance patient throughput while educating residents and clinicians on best practices.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified in a recognized medical specialty.
• Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Lead clinical documentation improvement initiatives and collaborate with CDI to improve accuracy and completeness.
• Provide physician-to-physician education on documentation requirements (severity of illness, risk of mortality, CC/MCC capture, DRG assignment).
• Review complex cases for documentation opportunities reflecting patient acuity.
• Guide medical necessity determinations and appropriate inpatient vs observation status.
• Support case management with complex utilization reviews and peer-to-peer reviews with payers.
• Teach residents about the Physician Advisor role and align patient care with KPIs.
