Coverage spans from 6 pm to 3 am EST, Monday through Friday. One Monday off per 4-week cycle, replaced by Saturday or Sunday. Schedules are set based on business needs to ensure adequate staffing across all shifts. There is shared responsibility for weekend and holiday coverage among Physician Advisors.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Promote efficient and effective clinical care of hospitalized patients delivered in a timely, appropriate, and cost-effective manner, guided by evidence-based medicine and regulatory requirements, via review of clinical documentation, telephonic communication, and other interactions with hospital case managers and physicians.
  2. Ensure payor and provider adherence to all applicable regulatory standards and CMS policies regarding inpatient admissions, observation/outpatient status, and hospital stay appropriateness.
  3. Provide in-depth clinical expertise in managing specific patient populations to effectively manage length of stay, discussing documented concerns and care plans with treating physicians related to utilization review.
  4. Meet performance and quality metrics, incorporate feedback from quality improvement reports, and provide exceptional customer service.
  5. Collaborate as part of a team with Physician Advisors, Nurses, Administrative Assistants, Clinical Relationship Managers, and Team Leaders, responding promptly to requests for assistance.
  6. Perform administrative tasks, stay updated on internal policies, regulatory changes, and complete mandatory training modules.
  7. Prioritize engagement with organization, colleagues, team members, and clients.

Required Qualifications
  1. MD or DO
  2. Current, unrestricted medical license in your state of residence
  3. Ability to build rapport with medical staff and hospital leadership
  4. Proven computer skills and knowledge of EMRs
  5. Ability to work remotely from 6 pm to 3 am EST, Monday through Friday, with weekend rotation
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Board Certified or Eligible
  2. 3+ years of hospital-based practice experience
  3. Strong organization and communication skills
  4. Problem-solving skills
  5. Team-oriented mentality
  6. Solid clinical knowledge and documentation skills
  7. Proficiency with computers
  8. Ability to conduct meaningful discussions with Case Managers and Physicians
  9. Adherence to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy for remote employees

The salary range for this role is $269,500 to $425,500 annually, based on full-time employment, with potential bonuses based on performance. Compensation factors include local labor markets, education, experience, and certifications. Benefits include a comprehensive package, incentives, stock purchase options, and 401k contributions, subject to eligibility.
