Job description

Seeking a BC/BE Forensic/Autopsy Pathologist to join our team in Greenville, NC.

Highlights:
  • Employed, Academic position
  • Applicants should be board certified by the American Board of Pathology in either anatomic pathology or anatomic and clinical pathology. If not already certified in forensic pathology, certification should be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and advances in forensic pathology and medicolegal death investigation is necessary.
  • Hospital privileges required.
  • Established program with two forensic pathologists and one pathologist assistant.
  • Autopsy Center conducts 600-650 medical examiner autopsies and 500-550 external examinations annually.
Clinical responsibilities:
  • Review investigative reports to determine jurisdiction.
  • Assess the need for and extent of postmortem examination.
  • Supervise assistants in body preparation for autopsy, including photography for documentation.
  • Perform autopsies and obtain specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Conduct microscopic analysis when appropriate.
  • Determine cause and manner of death.
  • Prepare and complete reports of findings promptly.
  • Review current literature to inform decisions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court.
  • Teach medical students, residents, fellows, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Consult with prosecution and defense attorneys for court proceedings.
