Job summary

Overview

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients of the Oyate Health Center (OHC).

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct service to patients involving the performance of diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services to patients.
    • Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations as necessary to make clinical diagnosis.
    • Provides medical or surgical treatment and/or referral as appropriate.
    • Prescribe or administer appropriate medical treatment, therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care.
    • Orders, performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests, records, reports, and examination information to identify and assess patient\'s clinical problems and health care needs.
    • Develops patient centered care plan including individual patient health goals incorporating the Medical Home model of care.
    • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
    • Communicates critical or unexpected abnormal test results directly to the patient in a timely manner.
    • Records physical findings and formulates a plan and prognosis based on the patient\'s condition.
    • Monitor patients\' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
    • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
    • Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
    • Gives total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services to patient(s).
    • Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care. Ensures accurate information is documented within the patient\'s electronic health record.
    • Works closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad health program services. Interviews and examines patients. Instructs and counsels patients.
    • Actively participates in clinic quality improvement activities.
    • Participate in meetings and represent OHC as required.
    • Utilization of EHR with accurate timely notes to ensure required documentation is entered for billing and referrals.
    • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
    • Performs related duties.
    • Performs the core responsibilities of the position accurately, timely, and in accordance with established standards.
    • Maintains regular and reliable attendance consistent with the position’s schedule and operational needs.
    • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders as required by the role.
    • Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Utilizes required systems, tools, and technology necessary to perform the job.
Physical Requirements

This position involves a combination of sedentary and active work, including sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day. The role requires frequent use of hands and fingers for examinations, procedures, and documentation. The employee must be able to communicate effectively, including speaking clearly and hearing and understanding patients and staff. Visual acuity is required for patient assessment and documentation. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. The position requires physical stamina to perform duties for extended periods and respond to patient care needs. Work is performed in a clinical environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases, requiring adherence to safety and infection control protocols.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school and successful completion of post graduate training and an approved residency program.
  • Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota, or ability to obtain full or temporary license prior to start date. Full and unrestricted license must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • ACLS certification, and PALS certification preferred.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
