Job summary

First Flight Health Centers in Ohio seeks an Internal/Family Medicine Physician to deliver high-quality, patient-centered primary care within an FQHC using a team-based, patient-centered medical home model.

You will provide comprehensive care, supervise APRNs/PAs, coordinate referrals, and ensure compliant documentation in NextGen while engaging in education, quality improvement, and community health initiatives.

Qualifications

• Board certification or eligibility is required.
• Residency in a primary care area (Internal Medicine or Family Practice) completed.
• Current DEA certificate is required.
• Hospital admitting privileges/credentials may be required.
• Current professional credentials/privileges at applicable facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care within an FQHC, coordinating with the care team.
• Prescribe, dispense, and monitor medications per standards.
• Maintain accurate medical records using the NextGen EHR system.
• Coordinate referrals to specialists and ancillary services as indicated.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive care.

Position Summary

The Internal/Family Medicine Physician provides high-quality, patient-centered primary care within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) using a team-based, patient-centered medical home model. The physician delivers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to a diverse patient population and contributes clinical leadership within the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Serves as the collaborating/supervising physician for advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Patient Care
• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and conditions.
• Prescribe, dispense, and administer medications consistent with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation using a problem-oriented medical record and electronic health record (EHR) system -(NextGen).
• Coordinate referrals to specialty providers and ancillary services as clinically indicated.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, preventive care, and safety, ensuring adherence to HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines.
• Receive and address abnormal test results during on-call periods or after hours when providing scheduled call coverage.
• Provide emergency or urgent medical care within the scope of practice.
• Initiate, adjust, and monitor medical regimens in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
• Provide ongoing follow-up, continuity care, and chronic disease management.
• Clinical and Educational Leadership
• Contribute professional medical expertise to internal educational activities and clinical discussions.
• Provide consultation to nurse practitioners and physician assistants as assigned
• Participate in the education of medical students, residents, or other learners as assigned.
• Support collaborative, multidisciplinary care with clinicians, behavioral health providers, care managers, and other team members.
• Training and Development
• Assist in developing and delivering in-service training, staff education, and orientation related to patient care.
• Contribute to clinical evaluations, performance improvement initiatives, and program assessments.
• Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
• Assist the Medical Director and leadership team in the creation, review, and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Provide input on scheduling, workflow, and operational enhancements that impact patient access and service delivery.
• Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, compliance standards, and professional guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance activities, including periodic chart audits and peer review processes.
• Participate in community outreach, health promotion, or public health initiatives as requested.
• Attend monthly staff meetings, clinical conferences, or required provider assemblies.
• Maintain flexibility in scheduling to support clinic coverage needs, including occasional evening hours.
• Participate in the on-call rotation in accordance with organizational call schedules - up to 3x/year for one per call rotation

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible.
• Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.
• Completion of a residency program in a primary care area such as Internal Medicine or Family Practice
• Current DEA certificate
• Current or willingness to obtain hospital admitting privileges and credentials (as set forth in the Employment Agreement).
• Current insurance privileges and credentials.
• Valid Ohio driver's license
• Current BLS Certification or obtain within 3 months of hire

Physical Demands

The physician must be able to move throughout the clinic to examine patients and perform clinical duties, including periods of standing, walking, and sitting, as well as occasional bending or reaching to access equipment or supplies. The role requires sufficient manual dexterity to perform physical examinations, operate medical instruments, and use a computer for documentation. The physician may occasionally lift or move items up to 25–40 pounds. Adequate vision and hearing are required to assess patients, review medical information, and communicate effectively.
