JOB SUMMARY

Demonstrate compassion, respect and caring while providing medical services for safe and efficient care to patients and assistance to their families. Work collaboratively with all other healthcare members toward the best outcomes for patients and the Tribal community. This position supports a balanced and appropriate patient caseload, with a target goal of no more than 10 patient visits per day, to promote quality care, provider well-being, and meaningful patient connection. The Physician contributes to a hope-driven culture and helps maintain a healthy, respectful work environment within Nooksack healthcare spaces.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Licensed Medical Practice: Practice medicine within the scope of license, training, and credentialing.
  • Standards of Care: Practice medicine in accordance with current standards of care and quality criteria adopted by the clinic.
  • Patient Assessment and Care Planning: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Patient Education and Prevention: Provide ongoing support, education, and referral to patients regarding diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
  • Hospital Admission Coordination: Admit patients to an outside acute care facility when needed for special care and treatment.
  • Medication Management: Dispense and prescribe pharmaceuticals and/or written prescriptions.
  • Treatment Plan Communication: Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans.
  • Minor Procedures: Carry out minor surgical procedures within the scope of practice and credentialing.
  • Public Health Reporting: Report births, deaths, and outbreaks of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.
  • Home and Emergency Care: Make house and emergency calls to attend to patients unable to visit the clinic.
  • Medical Documentation: Maintain detailed notes as legal documentation of treatment beneficial to other health care providers or professionals.
  • Care Team Communication: Communicate with medical and non-medical staff to support high-quality care and treatment.
  • Health Education and Outreach: Promote proper health education to patients, staff, and the community on an ongoing basis.
  • Health Programs and Events: Participate in creating, presenting, and monitoring health programs or events as appropriate.
  • Orientation and Teamwork: Participate actively in orientation programs for new staff regarding Nooksack Indian Tribe policy, philosophy, health center functions, and procedures to encourage effective teamwork.
  • Tribal and IHS Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of local Tribal and Indian Health Services.
  • Clear Communication: Communicate clearly and legibly, orally and in writing.
  • Healthy Clinical Environment and Caseload: Support a healthy, hope-centered clinical environment by maintaining an appropriate daily patient caseload, generally not to exceed 12 patient visits per day, while ensuring safe, compassionate, and timely care.
  • Policy and HIPAA Compliance: Adhere to applicable federal policy requirements and comply with federal HIPAA regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to be considered for this position:

  • Awarded degree of Medical Doctor (MD).
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Washington.
  • Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • Must pass extensive criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION
  • Graduate of Accredited Medical School with degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Completion of Accredited Residency.
  • Must have 3-5 years experience working as a Physician in an out-patient setting.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills with continuing education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sensory: Frequent speaking; constant hearing; constant near and far vision; frequent depth perception, peripheral vision, color accuracy, color discrimination and touch.
  • Physical: Frequent head/neck static position, rotation, flexion and extension. Frequent torso/back static position, stooping, bending and twisting. Frequent simple grasp, firm grasp, fine manipulation, pinch, finger dexterity, supination/pronation, wrist flexion and ability to operate hand controls. Occasional sitting. Constant standing and walking. Frequent crouching/squatting and occasional climbing of stairs and ramps.
  • Mental: Must have the ability to learn and prioritize multiple tasks within the scope and guidelines of this position and its licensure requirements, many requiring extremely complex cognitive capabilities.
