Job summary

Laramie County School District 1 is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide school-based physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed PT. The position supports students’ goals and participates in the IEP process.

The role requires an associate degree in PTA, Wyoming PTA license, and at least one year of experience with children who have disabilities. The position is 186 days with a 10-month work year and a 7.5-hour day. Travel and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in physical therapy assistant.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children with physical, developmental, and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • Wyoming PTA license and background check required; valid driver’s license may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the physical therapist to develop individual treatment programs.
  • Provide physical therapy services including exercises, range of motion, gait training, and assistive devices.
  • Consult with teachers, paraprofessionals, providers and parents for training and communication.
  • Document services and progress in Medicaid billing system and progress notes.
  • Travel between district facilities as required.
  • Document treatment data in IEP and district information systems.
  • Attend meetings and conferences related to the student’s education plan.
  • Assist with ongoing assessment and screenings as directed by the PT.
  • Order therapy equipment and supplies as needed; perform other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing physical therapy services to children in the school setting under the supervision and direction of a licensed physical therapist. They will implement appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success and help students meet performance standards and providing appropriate services to students.

2. Implement the physical therapy program within the guidelines of the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) and the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Provide physical therapy to students. Services may include, but not be limited to, performing exercises, range of motion, gait training, wheelchair mobility, and gross motor skills training.

3. Consult with teachers, special education paraprofessionals, community-based providers, and parents for training and communication as needed to implement school-based interventions.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • Associates degree from an accredited institution in physical therapy assistant or related field
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children with physical, developmental, and/or intellectual disabilities required; may include but not be limited to educational and volunteer experience.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:



  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Wyoming physical therapy assistant certification required.
  • Valid, state issued driver’s license, required
