Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Job Summary

A Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) implements physical therapy treatment programs, assesses patient progress, notes patient response to treatment, and documents daily in clinical charts or as required. Participates in multi-disciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care. Provides education to patients, staff, and families. Offers physical therapy care to infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, based on knowledge of growth and development. Interacts professionally with patients, staff, physicians, and the public. Treats patients with various conditions including integumentary, musculoskeletal, congenital abnormalities, genetic disorders, and neurological dysfunctions.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic growth and development
  • Knowledge of techniques, principles, methods, and procedures to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and dysfunctions
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance
Job Specifications
  • Current Physical Therapy Assistant license by the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards (required)
  • CPR Certification (required)
  • Membership in professional associations (recommended)
