POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapist Assistant implements physical therapy programs and provides treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Physical Therapist.
2. Provides individualized physical therapy treatments including modalities and exercises.
3. Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist during tests, evaluations, and complex procedures.
4. Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the Physical Therapist.
5. Instructs residents, families, and caregivers in the skills and techniques of the physical therapy treatment program under supervision.
6. Works with the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with resident needs.
7. Maintains appropriate and timely documentation for all residents treated.
8. Attends and contributes to care, staffing, and other required meetings as a representative of physical therapy.
9. Cleans, maintains, identifies, and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary.
10. Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring atmosphere that recognizes individual needs and rights.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.
2. Licensed as required by the State.

JOB SKILLS:

PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:

1. Interacts with residents, families, visitors, and employees.
2. Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
