Job Description
Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, provides physical therapy treatment as established by the Physical Therapist to meet specific measurable goals. Reports to Clinical Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures.
  • Carries out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Physical Therapist.
  • Designs and fits adaptive devices such as orthotics, mobility aids and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs.
  • Teaches patients and families the skills and techniques required for participation in Physical Therapy, adapting the instruction to meet their comprehension levels.
  • Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding patient responses to treatment techniques within medical records.
  • Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately and maintains communication with physicians regarding patient treatment.
  • Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program required.
  • Experience: Prior training or experience in a related environment is preferred.
  • Special Skills: Ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations, and planned procedures.
  • License/Cert: Must be certified as a PTA. Mississippi state licensure as required.
