Job description

Given an evaluation and treatment plan, the Physical Therapy Assistant I renders elements of the treatment plan designated by the Physical Therapist.

Core Competencies

Administers treatment programs or portions thereof as planned and directed by a physical therapist and advances or modifies treatment as designated in the treatment plan Communicates with therapist regarding patients progress, performance, concerns, planning needs, and reassessment scheduling. Monitors patients responses to treatment and modifies treatment during the session as indicated in collaboration with a PT. Assists therapist in preparing home program and discharge plans. Maintains records of treatment given, patient response to treatment, progress, and other necessary documentation as directed by the therapist. Delivers educational material and training for patients and family members, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and community. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of physical therapy through attendance of seminars, workshops, lectures, individual research, and review of current literature, Shares knowledge with staff through in-services and clinical training. Participates in planning and developing of new and existing departmental programs, procedures, and policies as needed. Evaluates and makes positive suggestions for change in the environment. Adheres to productivity standards established per area. Demonstrates a cost conscious attitude in use and ordering of supplies. Provides clinical training for physical therapy assistant students.
