Summary

Provides care under the supervision of a physical therapist. Teaches patients exercises for mobility, strength, and coordination; trains on activities such as walking with crutches, canes, or walkers; teaches massage; demonstrates the use of physical agents and electrotherapy such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Measures changes in patient performance as a result of physical therapy.

Job Duties
  • Provides appropriate physical therapy treatment consistent with the plan of care and patient's condition to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach their maximum performance level.
  • Uses effective teaching methods to instruct patients, families, and staff in exercise, mobility techniques, or equipment use.
  • Recommends modifications to treatment plans to optimize results.
  • Applies modalities as indicated to aid recovery and pain relief.
  • Provides cost-effective care following billing guidelines.
  • Completes and submits documentation per policies and standards.
  • Communicates regularly with supervising PT regarding patient concerns and progress.
  • Selects and fits assistive devices for gait training and instructs patients on proper use.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in physical therapy assisting.
  • Ability to train and mentor others.
  • Flexibility to work at various locations on a per diem basis.
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and competent physical therapy treatments.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification - State of Pennsylvania, required upon hire.
  • PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant certification - State of Pennsylvania, required upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of clinical affiliations as part of PTA curriculum.
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Tasks include pushing/pulling patients, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight, standing/walking frequently or continuously, and activities specific to role like kneeling, bending, squatting, or performing CPR.
