Job description

About the Position: This position is located at the Naval Base Port Hueneme, California.

A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for candidates new to Federal service.

Advanced Leave Accrual may be authorized.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties
  1. Provide updated status in patient progress reports and other administrative reports.
  2. Participate in instructional programs, including teaching other personnel proper methods of physical therapy treatment.
  3. Assist in maintaining supply levels and determining supply needs.
  4. Provide instruction to patients, family members, and/or other health workers on treatment procedures and functional activities.
Requirements
  1. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, based on a background investigation.
  2. The position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent must report to work during emergencies, natural disasters, or extreme weather.
  3. Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  4. Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  5. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  6. This position is a Drug Testing Designated Position requiring pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
  7. Consent to seasonal influenza vaccinations is required unless a recognized exemption is provided.
  8. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is mandatory for all positions with direct patient contact, with proof possibly required.
  9. One-year trial/probationary period may be required.
Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements below. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer work, and service programs. Your resume must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts are required if qualifying through education.

Basic Requirement for Physical Therapy Assistant:

Specialized Experience: One year of experience implementing physical therapy treatment plans, instructing on physical therapy programs, or providing status reports (typical of work at the GS-05 level).

OR

Education: Graduate level education (at least 9 semester hours) in a related field such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Sports Medicine, or Exercise Science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience can qualify if the combined percentage meets or exceeds 100%.

Additional Qualification: Must hold a current, active, valid, and unrestricted license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, or territory.
