Job summary

Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapy Assistant to support patients with movement dysfunction and pain. You will help implement therapy plans under a licensed PT, document progress, and coordinate care with an interdisciplinary team.

Qualified candidates hold an Associate degree in PTA, a Texas PTA license, and BCLS certification. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant per Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
• Current BCLS certification is required.
• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carries out treatment plans under the oversight of the Physical Therapist.
• Completes same-day documentation of treatments.
• Directs PT Technicians, students and volunteers as appropriate.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team on discharge planning and equipment needs.

Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Treats patients with movement dysfunction and pain resulting from injury, disease or other health related conditions. Treats disorders with physical agents and methods to assist in restoring normal function after illness or injury.

POPULATION SERVED:

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Orthopedic, neuro, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to joint replacement, fractures, CVA/TIA, soft tissue injury, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Treats Patients: Carries out treatment plan as directed by Physical Therapist. Communicates any changes in patient’s status to the physical therapist. Applies physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities appropriately, based on plan of care. Utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment program when indicated, in conjunction with the licensed P.T. and the plan of care, in order to maximize patient progress.


• Documentation: Completes documentation on the same day that treatment was rendered. Documents on all appropriate forms. Documentation meets generally accepted professional standards.


• Supervision: Appropriately directs the activities of PT Technicians, students and volunteers. Ensures that treatment plans are carried out correctly by PT Technicians and students. Initiates corrective action (in conjunction with director) when individuals supervised fall below standards.


• Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, and other patient issues, all of which are based upon the plan of care and discussions with the Physical Therapist when appropriate.


• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

• Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Associates in Physical Therapist Assistant

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• 1-2 years experience in any therapy setting


• New graduates accepted


• Knowledge of Physical Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology.


• Bilingual in English and Spanish
