Job summary

Nexus Neurorecovery Center - Conroe is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to support patients after neurological injury in a PRN capacity. Work under a licensed Physical Therapist within a multidisciplinary team in a structured rehab setting.

The PTA will assist with exercises, mobility, and activities of daily living, documenting progress and adapting plans as needed. Texas licensure and BLS/CPR are required; de-escalation training within 30 days is expected.

Qualifications

  • Active Texas PTA license.
  • Graduate of an accredited PTA program.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • De-escalation training within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience with neurologic or rehabilitation patients preferred.
  • Hospital, inpatient, or rehabilitation experience preferred.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Implement physical therapy interventions under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist
  • Assist with therapeutic exercises focused on strength, mobility, balance, and functional independence
  • Support patients with neurologic, developmental, or medically complex conditions
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and report progress to supervising therapist
  • Assist with adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and therapeutic activities
  • Collaborate with occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, nursing, and medical staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and safety procedures
  • Use de-escalation techniques when needed to maintain safety
  • Support a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes patient progress

Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) plays an important role in helping patients regain strength, mobility, and independence following neurological injury or complex medical illness. Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA provides hands-on therapy to support functional movement, balance, and daily activity skills while helping patients make meaningful progress toward rehabilitation goals.

As part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the PTA works with patients who may have cognitive, neurological, behavioral, or medically complex conditions in a structured therapeutic environment.

This role requires consistency, strong attention to detail, and the ability to remain patient, adaptable, and team-focused while supporting individuals through challenging but rewarding recovery journeys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hospital, inpatient, or rehabilitation experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with behavioral or cognitively impaired patients preferred
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
