Job description

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, CMTNCC, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Physical Therapy Aide, you will assist in providing specialized Physical Therapy services to a culturally diverse population ranging from adolescents to geriatrics and psychiatric patients, following individualized care plans under the supervision of a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant. Responsibilities include equipment repair/configuration (PT specific), executing treatment plans in the Maintenance Rehab program, guiding and assisting CNAs in related duties, and performing reimbursement and performance improvement duties related to the PT Department. You may also assist with contingency staffing plans as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Assisting therapists during evaluations, screenings, wound care, exercises, gait training, and executing PT plans of care for inpatient services, including assistance with personal hygiene, transporting residents, and performing PT procedures within SC scope of practice.
  2. Preparing, cleaning, and maintaining treatment areas and equipment, ensuring safety and proper functioning.
  3. Implementing Rehab Maintenance programs under PT supervision, documenting responses in EMR (My Unity Touchscreen), assisting with ADL care, feeding, and documenting meal intake as required during staffing contingencies.
  4. Coordinating daily PT schedules, managing PT records, securing necessary documentation and signatures, and compiling statistics for billing and performance improvement.
  5. Mentoring new staff or CNAs, assisting with orientation, and participating in resident care conferences and mandatory training.

State Requirement: A high school diploma or GED.

Agency Requirement: A high school diploma or equivalent, at least one (1) year of clinical experience, and a SC Nurse Aide Certification.

Note: Applicants must meet all listed requirements to be considered.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift more than 50 lbs. repeatedly, flexibility for campus coverage in Columbia, passing a written Rehab Aide test after on-the-job training, and competence in providing Rehab Maintenance under supervision.
