Qualifications

About Duke University Hospital

Duke University Hospital is the largest of Duke Health's three hospitals and features 1048 patient beds, 65 operating rooms, as well as comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.

Duke Health System PT/OT department is seeking a Physical Therapist (PT) to provide lymphedema and/or pelvic health services as part of our PRN PT float pool. Qualified candidates will have some experience treating lymphedema and completed a Level II pelvic health class or equivalent training.

Summary of Responsibilities

Provide physical therapy services to patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Include prevention and wellness services, such as screenings and health promotion. Serve as a resource for the team and participate in the orientation of new staff, physicians, and other health personnel. Engage in teaching activities for physical therapy and health-related students. Work within practice guidelines as defined by North Carolina state law.

Work Performed
  1. Demonstrate clinical reasoning in evaluation, diagnosis, and care planning.
  2. Collaborate with patients and families to create tailored care plans with measurable goals and discharge strategies.
  3. Understand and incorporate physical therapy's role within the patient's overall needs and environment.
  4. Exhibit age-appropriate skills relevant to individual patient conditions.
  5. Follow intervention protocols and adjust as needed.
  6. Discharge patients when goals are met or services are no longer necessary, ensuring follow-up as needed.
  7. Maintain competency in evaluations specific to your practice area.
  8. Meet productivity standards and work collaboratively with team members.
  9. Utilize support personnel appropriately.
  10. Participate in patient coverage across department divisions.
  11. Assess and address learning needs of patients and caregivers, providing education accordingly.
  12. Use effective educational methods and monitor patient responses.
  13. Ensure understanding of further intervention access.
  14. Complete documentation accurately and timely.
  15. Provide clear oral reports and data collection.
  16. Meet peer review standards.
  17. Provide clinical education for students, supervising 1-2 students during rotations.
  18. Participate in outreach, in-services, referrals, and volunteer interactions.
  19. Contribute to research activities to improve clinical outcomes.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and transfer patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy; Master's or Clinical Doctorate preferred.

Experience: None beyond required education; additional experience may be preferred.

Licensure: Current Physical Therapist license in North Carolina.
