Job Summary

Assesses patients, develops, and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results, which may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. Provides direct patient care, documents findings, progress, and instructions to patients and caregivers. May assist Level II & III physical therapists and leadership with program development, and provide training and guidance to students, interns, and staff. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university-based program.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current or temporary license to practice Physical Therapy by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or the Physical Therapy Compact Commission. Current BLS certification.
  • Additional Qualifications for Direct Access Practice: Doctoral degree with residency or fellowship, OR licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Ability to push and lift 75-100 pounds, carry up to 30 pounds, stand, walk, stoop, and squat frequently. Fine hand dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, effective communication skills, and visual ability to monitor instruments and recognize colors are essential.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for patient care, including comprehensive evaluation, interpretation of findings, and development of a treatment plan with goals.
  • Implement and monitor physical therapy treatments, demonstrate competency in basic skills, and supervise assistants and technicians.
  • Regularly assess patient progress, modify treatment plans as needed, and motivate patients and caregivers.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, colleagues, and insurance entities.
  • Present professional topics at meetings and conferences as delegated.
  • Manage time efficiently, document accurately, and adhere to safety and organizational policies.
  • Support professional growth through continuing education and contribute to organizational goals.
  • Create compassionate, personalized experiences that align with Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
