The rehabilitation residency at Northside Hospital is a directed postgraduate training program in rehabilitation within the assigned area of responsibility. As part of the healthcare team, the resident develops and administers physical therapy programs and treatments for various age groups, based on clinical competency. The resident provides high-quality, age-appropriate care within the scope of practice and established standards for physical therapy. They function effectively as a member of the rehabilitation team, engaging in patient and family education, and demonstrating courtesy and patience when speaking with and assisting patients, families, medical personnel, and others to ensure quality customer service.
Additionally, the resident will complete curriculum requirements aimed at advancing their knowledge and ability to provide specialized care. The program offers mentoring and close supervision, with clinical experiences directed and evaluated by an on-site practitioner-preceptor to foster a solid theoretical foundation for advanced practice. The resident will also prepare for certification examinations in their specialty area. Each residency cycle lasts approximately twelve months, depending on the specialty.
