The primary role of the physical therapist is to establish, direct, prescribe, and communicate care needs between physical, occupational, and speech therapies for the emergency department, medical/surgical floor, intensive care unit, outpatient surgery department, and long‑term acute care department, communicating with parties directly in charge of patient care and needs.

Position Purpose

The physical therapist will assume autonomous responsibility for evaluating patients’ needs for physical therapy.

Responsibilities

• Provide treatment and services within the scope of license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.
• Evaluate and clinically diagnose patient conditions.
• Establish treatment goals using input from patients and families as appropriate.
• Maintain documentation in accordance with internal/external timeliness standards, insurance requirements, and reimbursement guidelines.
• Participate as part of an interdisciplinary, patient‑centered care team with verbal and written exchange of information with other healthcare team members related to the physical therapy treatment plan.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of a Doctorate or equivalent professional Physical Therapy training program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy.
• FSBPT certification.
• State of Michigan Physical Therapist License or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to hire date.
• American Heart Association BLS or equivalent certification.
