Job Summary
Responsible for managing patients' physical therapy needs. Reports to the Director, Assistant Director, and/or Clinical Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients, interpret examination findings, and determine the nature and extent of dysfunction related to medical problems, birth defects, or health conditions. Conduct clinical testing for muscle strength, reflexes, sensation, coordination, range of motion, and sensory motor skills. Perform analysis and treatment of postural, gait, and ADL disorders.
- Establish personalized care plans to meet specific goals considering the patient's age, medical history, and dysfunction.
- Administer or prescribe modalities and physical agents.
- Develop and oversee exercise programs and patient care initiatives.
- Demonstrate professional competence and clinical reasoning throughout all phases of physical therapy.
- Apply appropriate precautions based on patient age, medical history, and treatment type.
- Reassess clinical signs and symptoms regularly to evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify plans as needed.
- Implement treatment programs directly and delegate tasks to support staff as appropriate.
- Coordinate treatment plans and participate in discharge planning with healthcare team members.
- Participate in patient care rounds and case management conferences when required.
- Provide education and advice to patients and families.
- Discharge patients from therapy when treatment is no longer necessary or appropriate.
- Adhere to Kaiser Permanente policies, legal requirements, and safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and report equipment issues per department protocols.
- Ensure accurate, timely documentation of services in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with management to meet compliance standards.
- Possibly train to serve diverse patient populations based on facility needs.
- Supervise PT assistants and aides when delegating tasks.
- Uphold excellent customer service and Principles of Responsibility.
Qualifications
Education
Completion of an accredited PT training program with a degree at the Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate level in Physical Therapy.
Licenses and Certifications
- Physical Therapist License (California) required at hire or upon eligibility.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) required at hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required at hire.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- If applying as a PTLA or PT Aide Letter recipient, licensing exam must be passed within 120 days of receiving the letter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in APTA is preferred.
Notes
- Availability for inpatient acute, orthopedic, neuro, bariatric, weekend, holiday, and weekday shifts highly preferred.
