Job summary

MarinHealth seeks a licensed Physical Therapist to provide musculoskeletal and neurologic treatment, with emphasis on early post-operative care in the CJR program. The role includes rounds, teaching Joint Class, and improving safe discharge processes in coordination with therapy leadership.

Requirements include MA or DPT with CA licensure eligibility and at least one year in an acute care hospital setting. BLS and IAM training are required within defined timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate patients by range of motion, muscle, neurological, or functional tests to determine impairment and create an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Develop a treatment plan based on evaluation results and goals; adjust as needed.
  • Administer direct safe patient care using physical therapy techniques.
  • Provide instruction to patients and families on self-care and home programs.
  • Act as a consultant to physician and other health care workers regarding physical function and treatment programs; supervise support staff.
  • Suggest new methods and techniques; stay updated with current trends; assist with scheduling, charges, supplies; may act as Senior Therapist in absence of Supervisor.

Job Description Summary:

To provide physical or corrective treatment of any musculoskeletal, or neurological condition by use of physical, massage, and active, passive, and resistive exercise, and shall include physical therapy evaluation, treatment planning and modification, instruction and consultative services. Specific to this position is the early treatment and following of orthopedic surgery patients in the CJR (comprehensive joint replacement) program. May attend rounds, teach Joint Class, provide clinical consultation to improve effective, safe discharge processes in coordination with therapy leadership.

Education:
  • MA or DPT. degree with completion of course work in a school or schools approved by the Physical Therapy Examining Committee so as to qualify for licensure by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs
Experience
  • Minimum of one year as a licensed Physical Therapist in acute care hospital setting including treatment of Total joint and Spine surgery patients.
License and Certifications:
  • Physical Therapist Required at hire
  • Basic Life Support Required at hire
  • Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire
Prerequisite Skills
  • Evaluation, accurate assessment, design of appropriate treatment plans, and execution of skilled treatment in keeping with current practices and their application in the field of physical therapy
  • Ability to read, speak, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to complete documentation as per policy and procedure

  • On referral, assess and evaluate patients by administering various range of motion, muscle, neurological, or functional tests or tools to determine degree of impairment and an appropriate treatment plan
  • Develop a treatment plan based on results of the evaluation, goals of patient, and those recommended by the physician; and make appropriate changes in treatment plan according to patient’s performance
  • Administer direct safe patient care, utilizing physical therapy techniques as indicated
  • Provide instruction to patients, their families, and care givers regarding self-care and home programs
  • Act as a consultant to physician and other health care workers regarding physical function, treatment programs, precautions and adaptive equipment
  • Delegate and supervise patient treatment provided by non-professional and support personnel as follows:

  • Suggest and, as authorized, introduce new methods and techniques
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in the field. Demonstrate evidence of continuously seeking, acquiring and updating professional knowledge and skills in Physical Therapy
  • Share execution of non-professional activities in the department, such as scheduling, charge slips, ordering supplies, maintenance of equipment, etc.
  • May act as Senior Therapist of Dept. in the absence of the Supervisor
