Responsibilities
The Physical Therapist - Journey Traveler must be able to travel nationwide for 13-week assignments. This position provides flexibility to work in various settings across the country.
On assignment, the Physical Therapist assesses the need for, develops, and delivers physical therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation. They identify the need for referrals to other disciplines to address comprehensive patient needs. They implement individualized therapy programs designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. They instruct, educate, and train patients and caregivers in skills and functions essential for promoting independence and productivity, aiming to diminish or correct pathology. They also supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel according to state licensure requirements and professional standards.
The role involves ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of rehab services, adhering to established care plans, schedules, and documenting services timely. The therapist participates in patient care and staffing meetings, makes interdisciplinary referrals, and consults with the rehab team to select appropriate therapeutic regimens. They adapt plans based on individual patient needs, promote a safe environment, order supplies, and maintain equipment.
Patients are screened, examined, and evaluated through history, systems review, and tests, with findings interpreted to establish diagnoses, impairments, and treatment plans. Goals and methods are developed collaboratively with patients and caregivers, with all services documented accordingly. Techniques used include therapeutic exercises, functional training, manual therapy, airway clearance, integumentary repair, and the use of electrotherapeutic and mechanical modalities. The therapist may design, fit, and train patients in adaptive devices, including orthotics and prosthetics, and instruct on mobility activities. Routine reexaminations are performed to modify or progress treatment plans as needed.
