Job summary

Summa Health is seeking an Inpatient Physical Therapist to evaluate and treat patients within the rehabilitation services department. This full-time role offers a 32-hour work week with a flexible but defined first shift (roughly 7:00 am to 5:30 pm) and a strong preference for weekend availability.

The position emphasizes collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, adherence to APTA and Summa guidelines, and ongoing competency development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy; or Bachelor’s Degree and Certification in Physical Therapy.
APTA-accredited program completion required.
Current License issued by the Ohio Physical Therapy Board.
CPR/BLS certification for Health Care Providers.
Board certifications in clinical specialty areas are preferred.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and treat patients per APTA guidelines and Summa Rehabilitation requirements.
Develop and administer medically prescribed physical therapy plans.
Collaborate with physicians and the care team to coordinate treatment.
Adhere to department policies, competencies, and service standards.
Provide clinical care and participate in continuous quality improvement.

Full-Time; Benefits Eligible

Schedule: 32 hrs/wk, First Shift (flexibility to adjust start and end times within first shift hours, typically no earlier than 7a or later than 5:30p), weekend availability strongly preferred, holiday rotation

Summary: Evaluates, establishes treatment plans and administers a medically prescribed physical therapy program in accordance with professional guidelines as described by the American Physical Therapy Association, State of Ohio and Summa Health System/Rehabilitation Services requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

a.Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy; or Bachelor's Degree and Certification in Physical Therapy
b.Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
c.Current License issued by the Physical Therapy Board to practice Physical Therapy in the State of Ohio.
d.Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association.
e.Prefer board certifications in clinical specialty areas and/or advanced degrees in health care field; prefer active participation within professional organization.

a.Professional verbal and written communication skills required for communication to referral sources, customers relations, interdisciplinary care and other stakeholders.
b.Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect, dignity, cultural compassion, diversity and inclusion.
c.Must be able to meet the physical demands of work environment. (See Level of Physical Demands)
d.Must be willing to advocate for and work with persons with all disabilities/conditions.
e.Show flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands placed on services/service delivery. Rotates through selected treatment areas when necessary to facilitate organizational service delivery needs.

g.Successfully completes annual competency requirements.
h.Minimally provides 40 hours clinical care annually (PRN only).

Level of Physical Demands:

a.Very Heavy: Exerts in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
b. Requires exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
c.Must be able to continuously stand and walk; frequently squat, climb stairs, bend to the floor, reach over the shoulder, kneel, twist, sit, stand and remain in uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time.
d.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
e. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
f.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
