To evaluate, plan and administer both direct and consultative Physical Therapy services for service users

Education, Licensure, and Experience required for the position include:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. 1-2 years working with developmental disabled individuals

Physical requirements to perform essential functions of the job included:

Regular required to lift 20 lbs. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. Must be able to pull minimum of 25 lbs. Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop. Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Required to regularly stand and walk. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing and lifting. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. Must be able to talk and hear

Key duties include:

  • Evaluates, plans, develops, implements and documents Physical Therapy treatment programs for service users as needed.
  • Consults with immediate supervisor and other health care and programming staff related to resident care plans to develop specialized programs for developing the motor skills and normal growth of residents, including range of motion activities.
  • Provides direct physical therapy treatment to service users as needed.
  • Consults with service user’s physician and/or consultants in regards to the continuation of Physical Therapy services when any medically related problems arise.
  • Maintains appropriate data and records progress notes on an as needed basis.
  • Serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and attends those meetings as assigned.
  • Instructs other personnel inappropriate activities for residents.
  • Evaluates need for, orders and adjusts adaptive equipment and wheelchairs. Refers broken wheelchairs and adaptive equipment to appropriate personnel to be repaired.
  • Participates in the pre-admission process as needed.
  • Coordinates orthopedic clinics and consultations for service users on an as needed basis.
  • Modifies or consults with orthotist/prosthetist regarding problems with braces or artificial limbs.
  • Develops specific objective plans as delineated in the client's current habilitative plan.

Our ideal contract Physical Therapist (PT) has excellent listening and communication skills and can pick up on nonverbal communication.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy
  • 1-2 years working with developmental disabled individuals preferred.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Satisfies legal requirements for the practice of Physical Therapy in the state North Carolina in accordance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • A valid North Carolina driver’s license may be required.
  • Personal auto liability insurance is mandatory if transporting service users in private/personal vehicle(s).

Pre-employment screening:

  • Complete criminal background
  • Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
  • Drug testing
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
  • Positions that require driving Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals.
